Best Foot Forward

Everyone says you need to put your best foot forward, but make sure that foot, well both of them actually, is in good condition first, because first impressions last. This is especially true when you are going for a job interview as the interviewer has a very short time in which to make a decision about you and how you would fit into their team and they look at every detail, including your shoes.

Therefore, make sure you polish your shoes before your job interview and that they are in the best possible condition. This means there is no mud, dust, or dirt anywhere because you don’t want to be leaving grotty footprints through your potential office either.

Also make sure that while the shoes you wear are well presented, they are also comfortable, as if they’re not you will be tempted to fidget during the interview which makes you seem uninterested.

While you may assume you will be sitting on the other side of a desk during your interview so the condition of your shoes will not be noticed, this may not be the case. For example, you may sit in the centre of a room facing a panel of interviewers and you and your shoes will be on full display.

Also, when you first enter the building or office, the interviewer will inevitably look you up and down and take in all of the details, giving you no time to hide your shameful shoes. So don’t think your shoes are unimportant as while you may choose them for comfort, they can make or break your interview outfit.
